Lightning in the Night Sky

This is the quilt I made for my nephew. He asked for Orange and Purple. I made a Rail Fence quilt from Sujata's book.

Some of the curves in my strips were a little more than "subtle,"

and I built the blocks to emphasize that craziness, after all the quilt is orange and purple, a color combination that has nothing to do with "subtle."

I made left leaning blocks, and right leaning blocks, then rotated and alternated them. At least, that's what I think I did.  Anyway, the result is called "Lightning in the Night Sky."

and because this quilt is going to a college-bound kid,

I made sure to put his name on it.

  5. Lynne, It is absolutely amazing! The name you gave is just perfect. When I made rail fence, I was torn between the layouts.. That's another reason I had to add the possibilities section in the book. You did a fantastic job and Luke is a lucky nephew! Please add your name to the tags so when people are looking for it in the search-box, they have an option to search your posts by you. Thank you for posting it here.

  11. Ok, I don't know if you get or see really late comments like this, but I could not pass this quilt up without saying, WOW! That is an awesome quilt. Never in my life would I have thought that I would want an orange and purple quilt, but I do now! I really want one exactly like this one! It is a great thing that you put Luke's name on it, because I think there would be some real temptation there :) hopefully, no one would, but it's better to be safe! You are a great Aunt! Now I need to go start sewing myself one...
