Never Too Miuch of a Good Thing

I love Sujata's take on the Rail Fence.  I've made it four times. Here's the most recent, a bright quilt for a friend who's undergoing treatment for leukemia. She loves bright colors, and we wanted something to bring a smile to her face.

Very bright bright with black-and-white.

When you go over the top, you should just keep going.

I just love these blocks.

Here's the finished flimsy.  The blocks are 16" square, so this quilt will be 42" x 64", a generous lap quilt to keep our friend warm while undergoing chemotherapy.

I kept all the leftover trimmings when I cut the blocks apart, and resewed them into a long, fun strip.

I added our friend's name to the back, and had a lot more fun with fabrics from my stash. It was a quilt made in a week, and it's away being quilted for a quick turnaround. I sure do hope this young lady beats cancer and can enjoy this quilt for a very long time.

  1. Love the black and whites with the brights! Beautiful job and I think the back is terrific.

  2. Lynne, I know your friend Diane will find great comfort under this beauty. Over the top is never a bad thing. I love the mix of prints here. I am curious to see more of the scraps put together into something too.

  3. What a joyful quilt for a friend in need. I love the details on the back: her name, and the way you used the leftover scraps. Congratulations on a fabulous finish.

  4. Millie this quilt is wonderful and I am sure it will bring so much comfort to Diane. Wishing her all the best on her healing journey.

  5. These bright fabrics look wonderful with the b&w! A great prezzie to cheer your friend up.

  6. Wonderful quilt...In January I am going to try one of these. I love to make quilts to make others happy. This one certainly will do just that.!!

  7. Surely this will comfort your friend, Diane, whenever she uses it or just sees it. It may be "over the top" ... but only in a good way ... and who doesn't love "happy".

  8. What a wonderful gift for your friend. Really fun choices for the colors!
